Shakhrisabz, which in translation from Persian means "Green City", for during the reign of the Timurids around the ensemble a garden was destroyed, not inferior in luxury to the famous paradise gardens, to this day this garden has not lost its grace and luxurious plane trees adorn the city.
The city, covered with the indisputable greatness and strength of the dynasty of the fearless and great Timurids. In 1336, on the outskirts of Shakhrisabz in the village of Khoja-Ilgar, the future great commander and ruler, Amir Temur, was born.
The most grandiose building of Shakhrisabz was the palace of Timur - Ak-Saray ("White Palace"). The decoration of the interiors of this majestic building on artistic merits was not inferior to the best palaces in Paris. But it's not even about the size - the decor of the building itself is unique: the sharpness of the ornament, the refinement of color and the proportionality of the details, these beauties were the insane beauty of that time. In Shakhrisabz, everything, one way or another, is connected with the name of Amir Temur. In this land, his father Amir Taragay is buried, and the spiritual master ShamsiddinKulol, his sons Jahangir and Omar Sheikh are buried here, no doubt that the great ruler himself wanted to rest here in the homeland of his ancestors, but fate decreed otherwise. Looking at its well-kept modern look, you can not say that this small town is 2700 years old, and that it played a significant role in the history of the Central Asian region. But once Shakhrisabz was the capital of the ancient state of Sughd, however, the city was then called Kesh, and its fame as a center of culture, trade and crafts spread far beyond the borders of the state. In 329 BC Alexander the Great conquered the city and soon Hellenistic culture took root in the city, the cults of Greek gods appeared. Over the course of the millennium, Shakhrisabz was influenced by various dynasties, and in the VIII century became a real center of the anti-Arab militia.
