One of the most grandiose mosques in the entire Muslim world, the largest mosque in Central Asia, a huge complex that inspires reverence and at the same time a mysterious fear of the grandiose height of the walls and at the same time makes one tremble at its splendor - all this is about the architectural monument of BibiKhanum.
The building of the large mosque is made in the technique of majolica in combination with non-fill bricks and carved mosaic, decorated with the finest vegetative, geometric and epigraphic ornaments. The interior of the mosque was decorated with ornamental painting on the plaster on the walls, and gilded papier-mache products on the inside of the dome. The exterior decoration of small mosques is inferior to that of a large mosque. This is an architectural device, the purpose of which is to strive to emphasize the main importance of the main building.
In the decorative design of the building, all the best that was achieved by the masters by the beginning of the 15th century was concentrated: majolica and carved mosaic, carved marble, carved wood, plaster painting and papier-mache decoration. This was a new stage in the development of traditional medieval mosques. The innovation of architects also affects the desire for ultimate harmony of forms. It strikes a lot - double, dome-topped domes, sharp minaret needles, high portals, towers, graceful marble columns of the gallery with vaulted overlap. There is an introduction of the vertical as an important element of architecture.
